just wont fly!!!

This has got to be the most insane idea I have heard in a LOOOONG while!!

For over forty years, golfers have teed it up at Fort Walton Beach's two city owned golf courses, The Pines and Oaks. When the Air Force sold the city the land, there were deed restrictions attached.Joyce Shanahan/F.W.B. City Manager;:"We bought that property from the military back in 1966 and it had deed restrictions that it had to be used for recreational or educational uses. The city has more than satisfied those restrictions."Now the city feels it can tackle two problems at one time, by selling The Oaks Course, and building up to nine hundred new homes.Shanahan;:"The issue is that the city is having difficulty, struggling to be financially solvent with the golf course. In addition, we have the issues of BRAC facing our community, where we have anywhere between 8 to 15 thousand people that are going to come to this city in 3, 5, 7 years."Shanahan says the city council will soon discuss whether to send a request to the Air Force, to change the deed restrictions on 150 of the 340 acres, and allow for development. The money gained form the sale, would be put back into the Pine course. But golfers we talked to, say the idea isn't up to par.Jerry McFadden/F.W.B. Resident;:"I don't like that a bit. It's hard enough to get in out here. Plus I like the opportunity to play a different course each time instead of playing the same 18 all over again."Aaron Lacroix/F.W.B. Resident;:"I think it's a horrible idea. There's so much other land here, this course is busy enough as it is."Shanahan says if the council decides to move on the plan, citizens will have an opportunity to voice their opinion before any sale occurs.

not much news!!!

Times are slow in old FWB and Destin...granted it is the middle of winter. The real estate market seems to be picking back up and that is a good thing. I guess the big debate in FWB right now is where to put the new bridge connecting FWB and Okaloosa Island. Its the same debate that has been raging for years now, only this time it looks like it will be built. The debate is between connecting it from the end of Wright Parkway or the end of Hollywood Blvd. I will keep you up to date as to the progress. My wedding is only 3 months away and I cant wait. Waaay too much stress to deal with planning this thing. I am very grateful my wife to be is an understanding lady :)

Hot new rides!!!

Chevrolet and Chrysler have revealed two new concept cars. The Camaro for Chevy and the Challenger for Chrysler. I think both are fantastic and will do each manufacturer very well. The Camaro is more modern with the Challenger going with the older muscle car look. Tell me which you like the best!! Above left is the new Camaro and below left is the new Challenger!!!

Insurance an issue!!!

So I decided to refinance my town home instead of selling it. We have experienced a surplus of real estate in the past few months and homes are not selling quite as quick as last summer. My loan was all but ready to close when I realized I didn't have enough insurance coverage to satisfy the mortgage company financing my loan. My townhome appraised at 215K so I assumed I would need at least enough insurance to cover the dollar amount of the loan. I found out that USAA would not insure my home for nearly the amount I needed so I started to look elsewhere. One insurance company gave me the ok on the amount of coverage I needed but it was going to take them a minimum of 2 weeks to send an inspector out. Seeing as how my rate lock would expire before the two week window I had to find an alternative solution. The appraiser on my town home failed to put a replacement cost value on the appraisal so I called the appraiser and begged for his help. After much feet draggin they finally delivered a replacement cost I could live with and the mortgage company said I needed at least 80% of the replacement cost in insurance coverage. I called USAA back and low and behold I got coverage through them...With a whopping $1000 dollars to spare. Lucky....perhaps.....but it goes to show a major problem with the retail values that appraisers are giving on homes in relation to the value of your home based on the Insurance companies policies and practices.
