Its that time of year again!!!!

Well gang its that time of year again. The Big Red versus the Big Green for all the marbles!!! Well actually its for the runners up spot in the district and a birth in the playoffs for the state crown. FWB and Choctaw both have loosing records, however FWB has been much more impressive throughout the season. Talent wise its not even close. FWB is faster than Choctaw at every one of the skill position. Choctaw might be larger on the OL and DL, however FWB's speed will negate their size. Being an alum of the Vikes I cannot in good conscience pick against them in this game. However seeing as this game has so much emotion and meaning it will be closer than at first glance. 24-17 VIKES!!!!!

In a nail biter FWB WINS!!!!! 16-13 andclinches playoff spot. Way to go Vikes!!

THis weeks Picks!!

UGA/FLORIDA- Uga without their QB and UF without an offense...man its tough to make a pick in this game. Both teams have offensive struggles but UF has looked worse in my opinion than the Dawgs. UGA has the best defense in the SEC East with UF a close second. This game is a true tossup. History is on the side of the Gators...but the Dawgs have more to play for. UGA 17- UF14

FSU/Maryland- FSU is in a really good postion in the ACC if they take care of business. Maryland is an inconsistant team with mixed results. One week good..the next bad. This game is at Doak in the Tallahassee so look for FSU to come out strong and take care of business. The FSU defense has been a little suspect in recent weeks, however I personally dont think the Terps have enough on either side of the ball to derail the Noles. FSU 35- Terps 21

Michigan/Northwestern - Finally a team is emerging in the Big 10 that "appears" to be a legitimate title contender. Northwestern absolutely dismantled MSU last week. NW's offense is as potent as anyones in the big 10 and their defense showed heart last week. Michigan is either overrated or underacheiving. Either way look for the Wildcats to take a nice position in the big 10 after Saturday. NW35-Michigan 28

South Carolina/Tennessee- Man I would so love to see Spurrier go up to Knoxville and knock the crap out of Fatty Phil. However the Vol defense is going to absolutely overpower the gamecock offense. USC's defense is marginal at best which should allow for Claussen to get the passing game going for old Rocky Top. I really dont think this game is gonna be as close as the score will depict. Ill say UT28-USC17

Lock of the week!!
Wisconsin/Illinois- Poor old Zook!! His fighting Illini look more like a pee wee team. The Wisconsin Badgers are gonna stuff it down Illinois throat. Look for this game to get out of hand early UW 49- Illini 10

Meaningless game of the week

Troy/ULL- The Trojans go on the road this week to Lafayette. Troy is suffering from a major case of youth. The defense is suspect and the offense is on life support. Carl Meadows is out as QB and freshman has been inserted. But dont look for this to help much. This is a homecoming game for ULL....does that tell you something. ULL 24-Troy 6

Have a GREAT weekend!!!!!

FSU/BAMA

Alabama, FSU to meet in 2007

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama and Florida State signed a one-game deal Tuesday to play at a neutral site in 2007, a high-profile nonconference matchup for two schools that haven’t faced off since the Seminoles rose to prominence under Alabamanative Bobby Bowden. The two teams will play Sept. 29 at Alltel Stadium in Jacksonville. The teams haven’t met since 1974, an 8-7 Alabama win and the Crimson Tide holds a 2-0-1 edge in the series. Alabama won 21-0 during the first meeting in 1965, but the Seminoles earned a 37-37 tie in 1967. All three games were at Alabama. The one-time meeting will be televised by either CBS or ESPN.

There ya have it!!! Picks on Friday

weekend CF recap!!

Well Texas is as good as advertised and they proved it against a good TTech team. Vince Young is slowly making his way up the Hesiman list. TTech is a pime example of a gimmick offense that will win you 8 or 9 games a season but never get you over the hump to the conference crown...Does this sound a little familiar UF??? Anyways got a win with this one W 51-17 UT

The Tennessee/Alabama game was probably one of the greatest defensive games I have ever watched. This Alabama team reminds me so much of the 92 team that won the national championship. All defense and just enough offense to gt by. As for UT all I can say is...find an offense and a decent offensive coordinatior and you might be able to get past .500 next season.
W 6-3Bama

Auburn played a good game against an improving LSU team. For the first time I really felt LSU had the Home field advantage. Its taken them so long to get their season really rolling with all the hurricanes but they finally seem to be coming together. They are DANGEROUS and could very well represent the SEC west in the championship game. Auburn is a good team. Not quite the team they were last year but a team that will win 8 or 9 games and go to a good bowl game. The SEC west is not out of reach..but Auburn fans are gonna have to pull for the tide to beat LSU to set up a winner take all showdown in the iron bowl. Oh and Auburn has gotta best UGA too!! L 20-17 LSU

Well I called the upset of UNC over the Cavs. The situation was too perfect for that not to happen. However I really didnt think the game would end up with a baseball score. For UNC this was a big win and puts them in good position in the conference. UVA needs to re-group.
W 7-5 UNC

USC over Washington was a no brainer!!! Washington and Ty WIllingham SUCK!!
W 51-24 Trojans

I would also like to give props to my second favorite team the Mizzou tigers!!! Big win against the cornhuskers. Puts them 5-2 and in control of their own destiny in the Big 12 North. Congrats to Brad Smith the Mizzou QB for rushing and passing over 200 yards in a game. Only the sixth time in history thats been done!!

My record straight up is now 12-4!! or 75%

Top 15 will be out later today or tomorrow!! PEACE

for the TIDE fans!!!

lets all do the FATTY PHIL dance!!!!!

THis weeks CFB picks!!!

Texas/TTech- This is one of those games that look interesting at first glance. However, if you look deeper into the matchup its pretty clear that UT will dominate this game. TTech has played a cream puff schedule to this point and have not faced the likes of this UT defense. Vince Young should have a field day against a very suspect TTech defense. Look for this one to get out of hand late!! UT 48-TTech 28

Tennessee/Bama- The Crimson tide have gotta be pumped for this game. After all the NCAA stuff that went on between them at UT (Fatty Phil) revenge has got to be on the minds of the players. Tennessee is once again over rated. Look for the UA defese to stiffle Rick Claussen and the UT offense. Bama is not as good without Protho...but their good enough to whoop the Vols.
UA 28-UT 14

Auburn/LSU- I personally believe AU is gonna go to Baton Rouge and hand it to LSU. LSU, though more talented than AU, does not play like a team. With all the adverse conditions the tigers have had to deal with this year its no wonder they haven't jelled yet. Brandon Cox is maturing as a passer for Auburn, and Auburn's defense is as stingy as ever. Look for a low scoring affair but an Auburn win!!! AU 21-LSU 10

Virginia/UNC- This is an upset game for sure. Virginia coming off a big upset of FSU, UVA is bound to have a letdown after such a huge win. UNC is better than they have played. Look for a big win to get the Heels back in the right direction!!! Heels 24-UVA21

USC/Washington........HAHAHAHA....LOLOLOLOL.......USC45-UW3

meaningless pick of the week!!!!!!

Missouri/Nebraska- The traditional Nebraska defense has returned to Lincoln. The offense is a work in prgress but is improving weekly. Mizzou QB Brad Smith is having a great year...too bad the defense is just not there yet. Mizzou playing waaayyyy to many freshmen and sophmores on the defensive side of the ball. HOWEVER, look for Mizzou to pull this one out and take a nice position in the Big 12 North. Mizzou 24-NU 17

Enjoy the CF weekend!!!!!!

recap of my picks for the weekend

USC/ND- well I had this one pegged pretty much from the start. USC is a good football team...and a lucky one. ND is also a good football team with a great coach. I thought it was the IRISH that had all the good luck, obviously NOT W 34-31 USC

FSU/Virginia- I called it in my preview but I could not pull the trigger and give the win to UVA. FSU's youth finally caught up to them with a rash of stupid penalities and some timely interceptions. UVA played a whale of a game and their QB Hagans had the game of his career. Look for the Noles to win out and still play for the ACC Championship against VT. L 26-21

Auburn/Arkansas- COngratus to the Tigers. Finally Tubbs went to Fayetville and came away with a good win. Arkansas always plays tough at home and Auburn stood up to the task. The west looks to me to be coming down to Alabama/Auburn. Gonna be a GREAT Iron Bowl!!
W 34-17

Florida/LSU- Gators, Gators, Gators...I told you your offensive liine sucks..and it does. I told you a lack of running game would kill you....and it did. Leak is a pocket passer and will continue to struggle in Urbans offense. Look for Urban to get Portis some playing time and start building for the future. LSU is lucky and pretty good. However their run to the SEC west isint gonna happen. W 21-17

Alabama/Ole Miss- Well it was bound to happen. A huge let down after the UF win by the tide almost cost the the game against a marginal Ole Miss team. No need to worry Tide fans, the tide is for real and will continue to improve till the end of the season. As I said before the AU/UA game is gonna be HUGE!! W 13-10

So far in my picks (straight up) I am 8-3.

Next weeks picks will come out Firday!!!!!

FUNNY!!!

on occasion I will post some funny pictures I find on the web!!!

This weeks CFB picks!!!

Notre Dame/USC- Wow, in what is a first for me, these are two teams I hate equally. USC is the best team in the country..PERIOD. And I dont say that because of talent or schedule. I say that because until someone beats them they will hold onto the number 1 spot regardless of how ugly the wins are. Charlie Weiss has done wonders for the Golden Domers. He has brought excitement back to a program that had lacked excitement since the Lou Holtz era. This game is at South Bend and for that very reason it stays close till the end 38-31 Trojans

FSU/Virginia- How come I smell an upset when I come across this game? Probably because FSU plays poorly whenever they travel to Virginia. Remember the very first loss in the ACC for the noles....it was at Virginia. Virginia is a good team but is suffering some major injuries to some key people. FSU has there share of injuries but they are mostly to backups. Look for this to be a tight low scoring affair. 17-14 FSU

Auburn/Arkansas - The tigers should absolutely destroy Houston Nutts Razorbacks...but they probably wont. Tommy Tubberville has major problems with Arkansas espically when he has to travel to fayeteville. However the tigers have WAY to much speed and talent to not get a victory. This one really wont be close if Tubbs can break the HOG jinks. 35-10 Tigers

Florida/LSU- The mighty Gators have to travel to Baton Rouge. LSU is a tough team to figure out. They should be the best in the SEC West but have just not meshed under first year head coach Les Miles. HOWEVER the Gators offensive line is pathetic. If Urban doesnt figure out a way to get Leak out of the pocket it could be a long day for the Crocs!! Its all about the running game UF and with your crappy O-Line its just not gonna happen. This game is a tossup in my opinion so I will go with the .....Tigers 24-21

Alabama/Ole Miss........ROLL TIDE......... 41-14 BAMA

My meaningless pick of the week!!!

Troy University/UL Monroe - Actually this game does have some meaning to me..I spent a year at Troy and have grown to like watching this young program. They have their share of offensive problems this year. Their talented QB from last year didnt make the team due to academics so I they had to go with a transfer as their starting QB. A transfer from a school that CANCELLED their football program. (East Tennessee State University). Dont know squat about UL MOnroe except that they are perrinneal basement dwellers. Lets go with Troy in an offensive slugfest 13-7

The UMP's blew it!!

In last nights ALCS game between the White Sox and the Angels what should have been a strikeout turned into the winning run for the Sox. For those that didnt see it AJ Persxndhjgfhalkjdfeiin (sp) struck out swinging and the catcher fielded the ball cleanly. At no time did the ball touch the dirt after the batter swung. AJ took off for first as if the ball touched the ground after he swung and made it to first base without a throw. Mainly because the Angels catcher was half way back to the dugout and had flipped the ball out to the the pitchers mound. Eventually a pinch runner ended up scoring and the SOX won the game. My question is how can ALL of the ump's miss the call. I can understand the home plate ump missing it because of his blocked vision but the umps at first and third had to get a good look at the ball NEVER touching the ground. Furthermore it is rediculous how the umpiring crew is trying to justify their mistake by arguing what the home plates ump hand signal really meant. GIVE ME A FREAKING BREAK. Admit your mistake and move on. If the ump would have said, hey I blew it...it would be a non issue for me!!

for my Gator friends!!!

I ran across this picture of last years Tennessee Game...thought this might bring smiles to your faces!!! I cant STAND The VOLS!!!

some news about FWB

Tomorrow, October 13th, is a historic day at FWBHS. At 9:15 groundbreaking will occur on the new Viking Stadium and Steve Riggs field. All I can say is.....its been a DAMN long time coming. The school board approved the final budget last week when Mr. Riggs stepped up and added the final contribution to get the stadium. Construction is scheduled to be completed late summer just before the 2006 school year. I will be attending the groundbreaking so I will let everyone know who I see there. There is suppose to be a pep rally after the ceremony as the Vikes will be taking on the Crestview Bulldogs and whoever wins pretty much has the district sewn up. If the Vikes win the district this year it will be there third in a row...here is a picture rendition of what the stadium will look like. I have a better picture and will post it here later if I can find it. All told Steve Riggs has contributed almost 900K in cash (not to mention stock pledges) toward the plan.

****Stadium guaranteed to be done before the class of 2006 graduates**** Ill post pictures of the ceremony when I get them uploaded.

This weeks top 15!!!

1. USC (tie)

Recap of my weekend CFB predictions!!!

Good job noles......being a noles fan I have become accustomed to their style of play. They outmanned the Deacons but let them hang around all the way till the 4th quarter. Then someone decided to switch their Koolaid. Actually, Wake Forest has a pretty good offense team and our defense has NEVER played well against the option. Very impressed with Drew Weatherford and the progression and development of the offense. I am getting tired of all the X-Lee fans bitching about his lack of playing time. All I can say is he should have won the starting job during the summer. Bigger test this weekend against Virginia....Ill elaborate later

Is it me or is something missing in Gainsville? I truely no longer despise the Crocs...err I mean gators. And would have really liked to have seen an unbeaten UF team against my noles later in the year. However something is not right in the land of the SWAMP. When coach Spurrier was there fans were always hyped and esctatic...I just dont get the same feeling with Meyer at the helm. Perhaps given a little time the fevor will return to gator country.

Well so I was dead wrong about the UT/OU matchup. Guess OU is truely in a rebuilding year. I just dont like the Horns....but it looks like they will run the tables and barring some computer gibberish will play for the NC!!

Can you hear it???? Its the sound of the Georgia Bulldogs as SEC chapms. I am not discounting Alabama, Auburn, or LSU from the west but it appears to me that UGA is poised to make a strong run at the SEC title. Phil Phulmer and Randy Sanders have worn out their welcome in Knoxville....Look for some major coaching changes on the UT staff at seasons end.

The other games really dont mean much to me since they are in the Pac10 and the Big 10 but I will say its nice to see Joe Paterno back on top.

Some matchups for the weekend!!

Wake Forest/Florida State - If this game were in Winston-Salem the noles could have some problems. WF is coming off a big win against Clemson and FSU is coming off a trouncing of Syracuse. This game will be close until the third quarter when FSU's depth takes control.
45-21 NOLES W- got close with this one 41-24 Noles

Mississippi State/Florida - Croyle to Protho....TOUCHDOWN TIDE...Oh shoot that was last week. I keep seeing those plays over and over in my head. Luckly for the mighty Gators this weekend is a get well game. MSU is woefully bad on offense and only mediocre on defense. UF has their problems with the O-Line and I still don't think Leak has a good grasp of the Urban Myth offense. However there will be NO repeat of last years upset.
52-10 Gators W- not as close with this one 35-9 Gators

Texas/Oklahoma- Texas has it all!!! Better defense, better offense, and better special teams. OU has Bob Stoops UT has Mack Brown.......24-21Sooners L-Blew this one 45-12 Horns

Georgia/Tennessee- The Bulldogs are kinda a mystery to me. They have a good QB and stingy defense but have yet to play a real monster game. Tennessee showed alot of heart in the comeback against LSU. Tennessee is the more talented team....RICHT is the better coach.
35-21 Dawgs W-27-14 Dawgs

CAL/UCLA- I feel the only legitimate threat to USC was last weekend and ASU let the game get away. Perhaps the winner of this game can make in roads to ending the Trojans domination of the Pac-10. Its the Hollywood guys versus the tree huggers from Berkley......I like the Bruins in this one 24-14 W-47-40 Bruins

Ohio State/Penn State- My heart tells me to go with Joe Pa and pick the Lions but my brain is saying something different. OSU gave Texas all they could handle and Penn State in my opinion has yet to play anyone susbstantial (one could argue they dismantled Minnesota).
21-10 Buckeyes L-17-10 Lions

MY MEANINGLESS PICK OF THE WEEK!!

GARDNER-WEBB/Hampton- Its the 5-0 Pirates of Hapmton versus the 2-2 Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb.....The only reason I pick this game is my future sister-n-law graduated from Gardner-Webb. Lets go with the Bulldogs in a shocker 35-28!!

Slowly but surely NASCAR is leaving the south behind!!

I love NASCAR!!! From the song by Cletus T Judd to the guys that host on the FOX network NASCAR has gotten into my blood. I never really was a NASCAR fan until about 1999 after watching the Daytona 500. I started watching every race I could find, and when NASCAR signed on to show their races on FOX and NBC it all seemed perfect. I think I was drawn to NASCAR for a few reasons, but there is one that stands out. NASCAR is a southern thing!! From its beginnings with the Petty's , Parsons, and Earnhardt's to its modern day juggernauts of Jeff Gordon, Ryan Newman, and Dale Earnhardt JR. NASCAR is all about the south. Its all about North Carolina where damn near all the shops and corporate offices are located. Its about a bunch of fans coming to camp/tailgate for a WEEK prior to a race. Its a place where the confederate is flown under the American flag....and its really not a PR problem. Nascar bring families together in the south like football does in the SEC and thats a GOOD thing. However recently there are signs that the old ways of NASCAR are disappearing. Racing in Mexico, Toyota and Honda joining the sport, races are dropped at tracks in North Carolina and added in Texas and California. NASCAR is growing, and I guess this is a good thing. Hopefully they will never forget their beginnings and the fans....we already have enough professional sports and athletes that dont give a damn about anything except making a buck!!

There is an old football saying.....

Never take points off the board. That is exactly what FWB did last night against Niceville and it cost them the game. Down one point to Niceville in the first over time period FWB kicked the game tying extra point to even the matchup at 35 a piece. However on the play, Niceville roughed FWB's kicker and the Vikes elected to take the ball on the 2 yard line and punch it in for the 2 points and the win. Needless to say Niceville was ready and even though FWB had run successfully out of the power "I" formation all night the play got STUFFED. I am not one to bash HS coaching cause in general the staff at FWB does a good job but on this night the decision to go for the win was just WRONG!!

Local HS football tidbit

Its FWB versus Niceville tonight in a team of county rivals. Niceville is 4-1 coming off a staggering defeat by Gainsville Bucholz last week which seriously put a damper on ther district 2-5a title hopes. On the other hand the Vikes 2-2 beat district foe Navarre last week to take a commanding lead in D2-4a. Its hard to believe that Navarre HS, who has only been playing football for about 10 years is now as large of a school as FWB. On a side note the Choctaw Indians also in D2-4a are 1-4 this year and got crushed last week by district rival Crestview!!! Ill post tomorrow about the outcome of the FWB game tonight.

ZOOK is a moron

Zook, Hoeppner tackle losing legacies
October 6, 2005
BY HERB GOULD STAFF REPORTER

It's almost as if Illinois coach Ron Zook and Indiana's Terry Hoeppner are reading from the same script -- a script left behind by Ron Turner and Gerry DiNardo. "When I say we're not as far away as everyone thinks, people probably chuckle,'' Zook said. "But the things that need to be corrected are correctible.'' "These are correctible things,'' Hoeppner said. "These aren't physical things where our guy just wasn't good enough.'' That said, when Zook's Illini and Hoeppner's Hoosiers meet Saturday in Bloomington, Ind., (11 a.m., Ch. 2, 560-AM), it might be the last game in which either team does enough things correctly to win. That's frustrating for the coaches and their players. It's also why Zook has replaced Turner and Hoeppner has replaced DiNardo. Say what you want about the Big Ten, which has had so many highly ranked teams plummet to earth this fall, it could be a clay-pigeon factory. The league is still top-to-bottom tough -- tough enough that Illinois and Indiana will have to do some serious overachieving to find any more victories after Saturday. In the last two-plus seasons, the Illini and Hoosiers are 1-1 against each other and 1-30 against the rest of the league. That's a lot of correcting. For both teams, nothing will correct those mistakes better than upgraded talent. The faster a cornerback is, the easier it is to recover from a misstep. The stronger a lineman is, the easier it is to mitigate a missed block. Zook and Hoeppner can't talk about their dubious talent levels without disrespecting youngsters who are giving their all, even if it isn't good enough. So they don't. In that regard, it's still college football, even if the dollars involved are very professional in size. What Zook can, and will, talk about is the future. "I'm going to separate recruiting from football,'' he said, bristling noticeably at the suggestion that losing hurts recruiting, even for a first-year coach. "We'll take care of recruiting. Don't worry about that.'' With Illinois nearly a touchdown underdog to Indiana, its most beatable opponent, it's easy for Illini fans to become discouraged. What they have to remember is that having seen a defensive guru, Lou Tepper, and an offensive genius, Turner, struggle miserably, athletic director Ron Guenther has turned to a recruiting whirlwind in Zook. Of course, a top recruit can feel more comfortable about the likelihood of winning at Michigan or Iowa or Notre Dame than at Illinois -- and that's the type of recruit Zook is going after. What Zook can offer are good facilities, a good education, the chance to play early and often, the chance to be part of a turnaround and the opportunity to play at a Big Ten school that, in the case of Chicago-area kids, is close to home and the state school. And Zook remains pumped to do that. "It's easier to recruit here than other places I've been,'' he said. "We have everything we need here to recruit. We just have to go do it.'' Meanwhile, he'll go to war -- and to Indiana -- with a team that makes too many correctible mistakes because it doesn't have enough talent to overcome them.

So let me get this straight..... for Ron Zook it is going to be easier to recruit athletes to Illinois that it was to UofF ???

JUST FOR YOU KOVAL!!!

Underachieving Boilers believed preseason praise

By Stacy ClardieThe Journal Gazette

WEST LAFAYETTE – Despite insisting before the season that preseason rankings didn’t mean a thing, some members of Purdue’s football team are changing their opinions.
A two-game losing streak that included a whipping by rival Notre Dame can force a change in perspective.
Brandon Jones and Rob Ninkovich are saying too many of their teammates believed the hype, and, in turn, play has suffered.
Purdue ranks 110th out of 117 Division I-A schools in total defense, and although the offense is averaging nearly 36 points per game, it hasn’t shown an ability to consistently make big plays in crucial situations.
“I think maybe the media gave us too much credit, and a lot of guys took it to their head and thought they as individuals were better than they were,” Jones said. “Or maybe the offense thought we were too good, or the defense thought they were too good.
“We need to get back down to earth and really come out with a fire and intensity and just play with a chip on our shoulders.”
Jones is quick to say that Purdue (2-2, 0-1 Big Ten) still is considering itself in the race for the Big Ten title. He figures the conference champ will have at least one loss.
But certainly the Boilermakers can ill afford another Saturday when they play host to unranked Iowa.
“I think right now we’re soul-searching, trying to find what the big problem is,” Ninkovich said.
Coach Joe Tiller said to expect some young defensive players to see more time, specifically freshmen defensive backs Brandon King, Jason Werner and Brandon Whittington.
With that influx of youth – already, true freshman Kyle Williams and sophomore Cliff Avril have been added to the starting linebacking corps – it’s likely Purdue will get back to basics defensively by limiting coverages and blitzes.
On offense, don’t be surprised if the passing game goes back to being the featured mode of attack.
The option has produced some big plays – a 55-yard touchdown by Jerod Void, an 88-yard run by Kory Sheets – but maybe that’s not enough.
“You’ve got to do what your guys do the best, and maybe we need to back off a little bit in our emphasis (on the option), not abandon it, but back off a little bit and do a couple other things with this quarterback,” Tiller said.
Silencing the stars
Tiller shed light on his surprising gag order of starting quarterback Brandon Kirsch and starting safety Bernard Pollard.
Both apparently were silenced for the same reason: They’re too emotional.
Pollard, who’s from Fort Wayne, already had been barred from speaking to the media this season. A dispute in practice, which resulted in him being kicked out of it, led to the first gag order.
“I just want those guys to slow down a little bit,” Tiller said. “Bernard is a very emotional guy. Bernard has said something to me early in the day and come back and apologize to me later in the day for having said what he said earlier. So we need to help a player like that. We don’t need to throw him to the wolves, or what have you. We need to help him and educate him and get him straightened out.
“Same thing on Brandon. Brandon a lot of times wears his emotions on his shirt sleeve. There’s plusses and minuses to that. I don’t anticipate having these guys be off-limit forever, I just want to help them a little bit.”
On the mend
Despite suffering a dislocated shoulder against the Irish, Tiller said running back Jerod Void is 50-50 to play against Iowa. Currently, though, Sheets is listed as the No. 1 back.
Tiller is more certain about starting cornerback Brian Hickman’s status. Hickman dislocated his elbow against Notre Dame and will be out at least four weeks.
Tiller isn’t sure whether linebacker Bobby Iwuchukwu (knee surgery) or tight end Dustin Keller (ankle sprain) will play this weekend.
Suspended
Redshirt sophomore tight end Garret Bushong, 20, was suspended for the Notre Dame game because he was arrested early Friday morning for operating a vehicle while intoxicated (a misdemeanor) and illegal possession of an alcoholic beverage.

Sugar Bowl

Sugar Bowl headed to Georgia Dome

ESPN.com news services

The Sugar Bowl is heading to the Georgia Dome on Jan. 2, ESPN has confirmed.
The game was forced out of New Orleans for the first time because of Hurricane Katrina.
The official announcement is expected Friday morning.
Despite the Sugar Bowl's hopes that the game could be played in Baton Rouge, Louisiana's capital does not have enough hotel rooms to accommodate the tens of thousands of people the game attracts. Sugar Bowl officials were hoping New Orleans could provide the space needed, but recovery efforts have not moved fast enough to make that possible.
The Superdome has hosted the Sugar Bowl since 1975. Before that, it was played at Tulane Stadium, starting in 1935.
Atlanta had already given Sugar Bowl officials the OK to use the Georgia Dome, which hosts the Southeastern Conference championship game in December.
The SEC has a long relationship with the Sugar Bowl, having sent its champion there for decades.
The Peach Bowl will be played in the Georgia Dome on Dec. 30, and the Falcons have an NFL game scheduled there Sunday, Jan. 1, but Atlanta officials have said they can accommodate all three games.
Sugar Bowl officials stressed last month that the move is temporary and they expect to have the game back in New Orleans next season.
One of four Bowl Championship Series games along with the Rose, Orange and Fiesta bowls, the Sugar Bowl is slated to host the national championship game after the 2007 season.

Surgeon: Prothro should play again

Wednesday, October 05, 2005

STEVE KIRK News staff writer

TUSCALOOSA - The broken left leg suffered by University of Alabama wide receiver Tyrone Prothro on Saturday will likely require 6-to-12 months of recovery time, orthopedic surgeon Les Fowler said Tuesday.
Asked if Prothro's injury, which included an open fracture of his left tibia and fibula, could be career-ending, Fowler said, "That's possible. But a great majority of time, people recover from this. That's what we expect from Tyrone."
Prothro, 21, remained at DCH Regional Medical Center for the fourth consecutive day Tuesday after he underwent surgery immediately following Alabama's 31-3 victory over Florida on Saturday night. He was expected to be released today or Thursday.
